21 lessons I learned before I turned 21 years old

1.You are your best friend.

No matter who comes into your life, you came on this earth by yourself and you are going to leave it like that. You need to understand, love and respect yourself.

2. Never have regrets.

They hold you back and life is too short to sit around and think about the past. Learn from it and move on. Don’t sit around and cry when you can get up and start all over again. And if you had fun, then it was worth it.

3. Learn to be fearless.

Fear is a feeling that keeps us tied up in one place and there is no escape. Break the walls and be free. No matter what it is that you are afraid of, you need to let it go. Live with it because if a thing is supposed to happen it will, no matter if you are afraid or not.

4. If they hate you, you are doing something right.

People gossip a lot and especially the little minds do so. There is a quote I love by Elenore Roosevelt:”Small minds talk about people, average minds about events and great minds about ideas”. So let them talk and if possible, give them even more to talk about.

5. Nobody owes you anything.

Anytime you want something from someone think about what they will need in return because in this life nothing is free. You might what you need now, but at some point, you will pay for it.

6. There is something to learn from anyone in your life.

From a 13 years old kid to the lady that sells you cigarettes if you listen you might learn something that you have never thought about.

7.  Never judge a book by its cover.

People say that the first impression is the key, but I believe that until you haven’t learned about their past you can’t judge them. You will be surprised how many things a smile can hide.

8. Be happy with what you have but work for more.

Find the balance between I am fulfilled with I have but I need to go further and ask for more.

9. Work hard, party hard.

When you are at work, school think about work and school and when you are at a party just have fun. The technique I have is to invent a personal assistant in my head and to delegate to him whatever is bothering you.

10. Always dress for success and on point.

No matter if you are going to buy something from the store just around the corner or going to the office, you should look presentable and always have perfume on. You never know who you might run into.

11. If you look like a hot mess, put on a pair of huge sunglasses and red lipstick.

The red lipstick will draw attention from the tired skin.

12. Never give up on your dreams for somebody else.

They can be your parents, your lover, your friends but the dreams are yours. You need to make them true and guess what, the life is yours and remember you only have one.

13. Always try to learn something new.

It might be a random article from Facebook or a documentary from Youtube, you never know when you might need the information.

14. If a relationship is dead, leave it there.

Don’t take on board people that don’t want to be there. Keep in mind that everyone has their own journey.

15. You are the most productive when you wake up early.

16.If you don’t love what you are doing, there is no point in pursuing it.

Because you are wasting your time and life is about evolving. You can’t evolve in a place where there is no passion.

17.People are mean, don’t let them change you.

18. You should care about your family and close friends- if you have a few it’s even better.

19. Learn to say NO.

I know the feeling that you want to help everyone with anything but there are only 24 h in a day. So spend them on yourself first.

20. It’s ok to be selfish. It’s in our nature, to care about ourselves first.

21. Take care of yourself.

Get enough sleep, eat healthy and try to walk more if you have no time to do sports.

  • This is one of the best posts I`ve read in a while. You`re so right in everything you said. I think that for me the biggest lesson was to put myself first. I used to be one of those people that did everything for their friends. And guess what? After high-school we went separate ways and they did not give a shit about me. But alas, I made new friends and everything`s great, but I know now that there needs to be a balance.

    • Yes, I learned that by losing some friends . You win some, you lose some but you always need to check if you’re ok in the process. Thanks for stopping by :)

How wise are you at 25 babe. I am trying to be better at waking early and being productive in the morning. I always seem to try to get my work done most at night but it’s not very good for you. Happy 25th birthday!
